2nd Chance “Sponsor a Bucket” Campaign

2nd Chance “Sponsor a Bucket” Campaign

I’ve come to the conclusion that if you’re not a dog person and/or not a cat person then you’re probably a sociopath. -just saying-

When identifying needs in our community, a few in particular shout louder than others. We have a stray and breeding problem. While this dilemma has been discussed (errr, complained about) at length, only a handful are actually willing to get their hands dirty with involvement.

Our county in Indiana has a meager population of not quite 67,000 (as of last census) but our stray population is busting at the seams. According to Waynecountyfoundation.org, “Local animal control officers frequently face capacity issues when housing stray dogs. An official Animal Welfare Feasibility Study funded by the Wayne County Foundation noted hundreds of annual calls for "nuisance animals running loose," with officers occasionally forced to refuse intakes or hold dogs temporarily due to a lack of open kennel space.”

We have three options in Wayne County for strays, and despite their best efforts cannot house them all. The funding is just not there. The majority of support comes from the citizens and volunteers.

Jessy & I are animal lovers. We’re the type that will meet you on the sidewalk and have an entire conversation with a dog, yet perhaps never make eye contact with the owner.

We want to get our hands dirty when it comes to helping the dogs and cats of our neighborhood. Everyone has something they can give, be it time, money, or talents. We’ve made the decision to donate all three.

When 2nd Chance Animal Rescue made a post on Facebook identifying a need for laundry soap, a lightbulb went on. We can do that! But let’s do it in a way that benefits the shelter with product AND financial support. Thus, the “Sponsor a Bucket” campaign was launched.

So we’re getting our hands dirty making soap. Kind of an oxymoron, but it’s true. But couldn’t we do more? Yes, we can. We’re setting our sights on a crafting workshop to benefit 2nd Chance Animal Rescue.  It’s an opportunity for the community to come together in a social setting, not to complain, but to support those actually making a difference.
